DOTD Construction Inspection: Moving in the E-Direction
Dear Members of ACI-Louisiana Chapter,
This is typically the time of the year where the board members of the ACI Louisiana Chapter are making our final preparations for our awards ceremony. We always look forward to this event as we get to meet so many of our members and bring the concrete community together. Unfortunately, as with many things that were scheduled in 2020, we sadly had to cancel our event. This past year has given us many challenges, but rest assured the board has been working diligently to meet them head on. Although we have not been able to come together, we still hold virtual meetings and continue to plan the course for our chapter’s future. I am also proud to say the Chapter has retained our Excellence recognition given from National as we continued outreach and engagement with our members and student chapters, along with providing financial contributions and sponsorships to many concrete related events and programs.
As much as we can’t wait to get back to hosting live seminars, the Board did adjust last year and hosted technical presentations for our membership via webinar. We managed, without the benefit of meeting face to face, to organize and present virtually the Louisiana Civil Engineering Conference and Show. The Certification committee modified operations to accommodate secure facilities in providing the ACI certification services to Louisiana and neighboring state technicians. As the year progressed, the board managed to safely conduct social gatherings such as hosting the Clay Shoot this past fall. This left us hopeful that we will bring back our golf tournament this coming spring. And of course, we still can provide all of our members with membership to ACI National, along with subscriptions to Concrete International magazine, ACI University tokens, listing in the ACI national member directory, and a printable ACI membership certificate.
I owe a huge “Thank you” to the 2020 Board of Directors for their dedication, service, and leadership over the past year, as well as to all of our members for giving your time to make the year a success. As I look ahead to the upcoming year and the challenges we will face, I know there is tremendous power in the size of our membership and the many talents our members bring to this organization, and I look forward to seeing what the 2021 Board has to offer. Thank you all for your continued support of the Chapter!
Sincerely,
Jeffery Lund

Dear Members of ACI-Louisiana Chapter,
The Louisiana Chapter of the American Concrete Institute must regrettably cancel this year’s awards ceremony and presentation originally scheduled for January 23rd 2021. After much thought and deliberation from our board, we felt it is important to us that we not only provide a safe and secure atmosphere for all attendees and recipients, but that we also provide the just acknowledgement and recognition that each award winner deserves to receive. We regrettably are not able to provide those things this year due to the restrictions around the pandemic.
We have tentatively reschedule our event in early 2022 where all 2020 entries will be automatically rolled into the 2021 awards program. All of this year’s submittals will still be eligible for advancing into the ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Program at the international level. We would like to send a special thank you to our submitters. We do recognize that it takes time and effort to make a submittal to the program and we want to ensure that effort does not go to waste.
Please know that we are all saddened by this, but we anticipate all being together in 2022 to celebrate and acknowledge all the great accomplishments of the Louisiana Concrete Community. We look forward to seeing you all again at that time.
Jeff Lund
